The Survey of economy from 2022 to 2023 highlights measurement issues in calculating the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for women. The labour force participation rate is calculated as the labour force divided by the total working-age population, according to OECD. The working age population refers to people aged 15 to 64. LFPR approximates an active economy workforce. India’s female labour force participation rate in 2021 was around 19 percent, lower than the world average at 25.1 percent, and has been decreasing for long.
